paris - london - exeter - torquay

Eurostar to connect South West is quite a contrast but they cost about the same . I would say eurostar has better sandwiches but actually they didnt ! Just the train was from the 20th century. Back to the UK and it feels like we live in a third world country sometimes . It's a glamorous world to travel such destinations from the french capital to the english riviera and its palm trees in a day. Home of "faulty towers " Torquay has always been a curious place! But first it was straight to the gig in Exeter with my friend matt and the Chelston Massive had taken over Exeter. It was a fund raising event for his Charity PeninsulaCF - He set it up because his Daughter has Cystic Fibrosis... I met her for the first time. . I feel that my time is well spent helping her and kids like her and plan to do more . Often this business is not very rewarding so i am trying to put something back into life!

The gig itself was so much fun with Matt, Phil Thompson and myself ! Phil was also giving his time for a good cause . The drinks were flowing and the crowd was growing as my turn to take the stage .I was'nt nervous but enjoying an evening with good people. There is something special about the West Country in england , It is magical and mystical. But the the drinks were in plastic glasses .....It was contrasting to "Le Rex" but probably more fun and less smoke; apart from phil who was burning some strange herbal remedies to help us play better! We also had justin playing flute over the tracks which sounded amazing thru a reverb unit , kind of minimal freeform jazz ! sleeparchive with flutes .....hmmm nice
got to bed around 7am............

Off to the legendary REX CLUB

Off to the legendary REX CLUB in paris , which probably was the most smoky club in the world. it seemed everyone was smoking in paris that evening, seems like civil war will break out if they ban smoking there ! I love wee jaunts to paris and had time for a trip to the expensive shops of st. germain, way too expensive for the likes of me but i found a nice teeshirt in APC.....and bought something for my girlfriend!

Anyway to the REX and the most amazing dj booth i think i ever saw - a glass screen separates me from the audience , the monitors are so fantastic even i could sound good djing ! the mixer was around 10 channels and several fx units too. I like to keep it simple though , too many gadgets for my liking.........was gifted a fine chablis from some friends and proceeded with my set. Two hours later and the crowd were still there! it was a thursday and i wonder "dont these people have jobs ?"

As hunter says.

The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. - Hunter S. Thompson

As hunter says above its got its negative sides ! but the last couple of weeks have been great fun for myself ! Firstly james and i played live at the loft in barcelona , with gilles from the youngsters, it was a great night and we hung out with our old friend adrian in barcelona; as ever i was left with the bar bill ! A short but sweet visit to a truly great city!
